About the "Becky" from Barn Quilts by Becky

image14

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my website. I'm excited to share with you my love for Barn Quilts, a fun and colorful way to add color, design, and flare to your barn, shed, fence or home. No, they aren't just for barns.

Who am I?

My background is in art and I have always loved color and the part it plays in our surroundings. Barn Quilts is another way to express yourself through design and the mix of colors. Just like the many forms of Art out there, Barn Quilt Squares are also an expression of the person displaying it! There are as many designs and color mixes as there are people.

I was raised in the colorful desert of Arizona, lived in Utah among towering mountains and now currently live in Illinois. I have enjoyed the beautiful  surroundings from the desert to the mountains and now to the rolling  farmlands.

I would love to help you be able to express yourself through barn quilt design and color so that you can transform your space with flare and expression!

Process and Materials

  • I start with MDO board. This is a special plywood material used for exterior signs.
  • Board is prepared for exterior use
  • At the same time I prepare 1"x 3" pine boards for the supporting framework.
  • After attaching the frame work the board is prepared for the quilt pattern.
  • The highest quality exterior semi-gloss paint is used to paint each color. Four or five coats of paint is applied.
  • To finish the painting process two coats of exterior semi-gloss paint is applied to the sides and back of the quilt in the base color.
  • An exterior silicone caulk is added to seal between the supporting frame and quilt board.
  • The final step is to add a 4" to 6" (depending on the size of the quilt) French Cleat is added to the back of the frame for easy hanging. Larger cleats are used for 8' x 8' quilts
